South Place Hotel is not only the first purpose-built hotel to open in the Square Mile in 100 years, it is also the first hotel from leading restaurateurs D&D London. McLaren used a number of innovative construction methods to ensure the luxury hotel in the heart of the City lives up to the impressive design and plans.

Initially promoted as a ‘restaurant with rooms’ to ensure maximum publicity for the seventh floor restaurant, the 80 bedroom hotel now features Terrence Conran designed interiors, the roof top restaurant with stunning outdoor terrace, a brasserie, three bars, ground floor gym and sauna, and five private meeting rooms.

Among the innovative methods McLaren adopted to ensure completion by June 2012 are a twin wall pre-cast solution for the walls, Omnia decking for the upper slabs of the concrete frame and a modular backing structure to the rain screen cladding. This enabled McLaren to get the building watertight as fast as possible.

Other interesting features of the building include the hybridisation of silver, anodised and bronze powder coated rain screen cladding that inclines from the fifth floor to roof. Internally, the finishes are designed and built to a high specification and include fumed oak and specialist joinery items.
