The decommissioned Didcot A Power Station will be home to a new data centre facility. The project consists of the construction of a new shell-and-core data centre building in a single storey block and the fit-out of part of the same.
The works may broadly be described as follows:
Undertake civil infrastructure works including all provision to support incoming services, and both foul and surface water drainage. The substructure consists of piled foundations supporting a steel framed structure, clad with King span micro rib composite panels to the walls and Soprema roof system. There is an extensive array of louvres to be built into the cladding to facilitate a considerable amount of cooling, necessary to protect the data storage inside the facility.
Mechanical services comprise standby diesel-powered generators, mains water main installation, sprinkler water main installation, humidifier water main installation, HVAC systems, sprinkler installation and ducted site services to include electrical power (HV, MV and LV), fiber optic cable installation and foul and storm drainage.
The initial contract is for the fit out of phase 1 data hall, but the contract includes for all generator bases and supporting M&E infrastructure for all future phases.
The scheme also includes a new 11KV substation building, including the supply, installation and commissioning of MV Switchboard, MV ducting and cabling to DC MV switchrooms.
Electrical Services comprise, lighting and emergency lighting, fire detection, voice/data installation, MV and LV installation, standby electrical power installation and goods/passenger lifts.
