Our London team has successfully handed over Crown House - a residential scheme in the heart of Barking delivered on behalf of Be First.
Located near Barking Town Centre in East London, Crown House is a residential scheme that will provide 169 affordable homes for the Barking and Dagenham community, delivered on behalf of housing provider Be First. The scheme comprises a 19-storey high-rise building alongside 9 and 10-storey buildings.

It was a priority for our customer that the money generated from the project remained in the local area. Our team went the extra mile to keep this promise by spending over £15.9 million on local suppliers and subcontractors.

160 local people benefited from employment and training initiatives throughout the project and over 39% of the project workforce was local. We have also helped numerous local residents access permanent employment in the industry by partnering with the Barking & Dagenham Jobshop.

The project also received perfect 45/45 scoring during the project's final Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) visit at the end of February. In addition to this, the Mayor of Barking & Dagenham wrote a letter congratulating the team for delivering the project to an excellent standard and their outstanding engagement with the local community.

More about Crown House

Crown House was the first project appointed to McLaren via the Be First Framework, Barking & Dagenham's regeneration company who is investing over £1bn to provide the borough with the homes it deserves.

The project team have overcome numerous challenges over the past couple of years. Having started on site just before COVID-19 took over our lives, the team have worked hard and persevered to deliver the project on time and on budget. Working on such a constrained site also presented a challenge which was overcome by employing modern methods of construction and looking for alternative ways of storing materials on site.

A word from our Operations Director Simon Phipps

“The successful completion of this project was made possible by our team and partners' hard work and dedication. Having started on site just before the COVID-19 outbreak, we successfully adapted to new safety measures and overcame a number of logistical challenges. Over the past two years we have also generated great economic growth in the area through supply chain spend and local employment. A special thank you once again to everyone who has contributed to the successful delivery of this project on time and on budget."
