A ground breaking ceremony on 11th December 2012 has marked the start of a contract with Land Securities to deliver a 274,000 sq ft mixed-use development at the former Sussex House site in Crawley.

Designed by Lyons Sleeman Hoare, the new development will include a 75,000 sq ft Morrison’s superstore, a 110 bed Travelodge and three additional retail units totaling 6,000 sq ft. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2013 and is a significant scheme in the wider regeneration of Crawley.

This event has started the demolition works which will facilitate the main construction work as well as enabling works and asbestos removal. The main construction works consist of piled foundations, RC Frame, post-tension slabs, a structural steel frame and cladding to the Morrisons store, and a lightweight frame and rain screen cladding to the Travelodge. The project also includes extensive service diversion works.

Mark Bird of Land Securities commented “We are delighted to be working with McLaren on this exciting project, working in partnership will enable delivery of our key Corporate Responsibility objectives and initiatives which forms a key part of our commitment to Crawley Borough Council.”
