We must learn, adapt, and improve homes so that they are safe for everyone. Homes must be futureproofed to provide sustainability and comfort for residents. Safety is prioritised in the build, with strict compliance to regulations, ensuring both immediate and long-term protection.

Key elements of success

Safety starts at the top. We have a committed team of leaders working together with industry partners to eliminate errors and build a better UK construction industry. Alongside our membership of GIRI (Getting it Right Initiative), we have fully embraced the Building a Safer Future initiative, becoming signatories in 2021 and publicly demonstrating our support for key commitments in building safety.

McLaren commenced its journey to Champion status with the Building Safety Fund in 2023, initiating the Building Safety Leadership and Culture assessment stage. With Stage Two, Corroborating Leadership and Culture Through Organisational Practice validation in 2024.

We will instil the right behaviours through customer focus, creating a positive and inclusive culture, and concentrating on the governance required to build safely. These behaviours deliver high-quality sustainable buildings. The process is continual, too. We listen, understand, and remain focused on continuous improvement.

We build with residents in mind. Our project teams provide unique, supportive, and agile partnerships, with residents’ feedback at the heart of our delivery. For us, it is vital to take residents on the journey with us. We do this through:

·   Building trust using open, honest communication
·   Being visible and recognisable faces on site
·   Tailoring engagement to suit residents’ needs, such as interpreters
·   Using different communication channels, including digital, social media, and traditional letter drops
·   Measuring our performance against KPIs
·   Maintaining honesty through all communications
·   Complying with GDPR legislation

Competence: We verify everything through our Competency Hub, mapped to PAS 8672 Principal Contractor requirements, and Flex 8670 Building Safety Competence. We also have further requirements for new-build and existing Higher-Risk Building (HRB) regulations.

Construction Control: The McLaren Management Process (MMP) includes a Project Control Plan, the primary document for all our projects, aimed at achieving the required level of compliance.

Digital Information Management: We utilise ASite for digital document management, including Change Control and MOR reporting procedures. With field app, Dalux, tasks are viewed and submitted back for review and approval once finished

For all hotel construction projects, we provide full visibility of how every aspect will impact on live business operations, maximising efficiencies and protecting the guest experience, reputation and revenue stream at all times.

Our works dovetail with the operation of a live hotel so that interaction between sub-contractors, hotel staff and guests is planned to avoid disruption and disturbance.

Room upgrades are carefully phased with week-by-week scheduling and an open channel of communication with hotel management. Our collaborative approach means we can free up the highest revenue producing areas as quickly as possible, always keeping the number of unavailable rooms to an absolute minumum.

Physical barriers and clear signage segregates work areas to promote guest and staff safety and all exit routes are kept clear.

Frameworks

McLaren works across a range of public sector frameworks to deliver high-quality projects for government, education, healthcare and community partners. These frameworks provide a trusted route for procurement, enabling us to collaborate early, deliver value for money, and support essential public services with reliable, efficient and well-managed construction solutions.
